State park · Grand Traverse & Inland Lakes
Cadillac's state park between Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac, with a campground, the Clam Lake Canal and the start of the White Pine Trail.
William Mitchell State Park is Cadillac’s base for water days: 770 acres on the strip of land between Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac, with a campground, swimming and a beach house, a boat launch and paddlesport rentals.
The two lakes are joined by the Clam Lake Canal, a historic quarter-mile channel through the park. Anglers have a fishing pier, and the park lists paddling and a kayak launch.
Bring a bike. The park is the trailhead for the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail, and it connects to the 7.5-mile Lake Cadillac Foot & Bike Path.
For families, the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center in the park runs nature programs for all ages; recent listings included a night hike and a lure-making workshop, so check the DNR events calendar. You need a Recreation Passport on your car (see licenses and passes).
