Privacy Policy
Plain-language summary: we collect very little, we use it to run the site and our newsletter, and we never sell or share your personal information. The detail is below.
This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and protected when you visit UpNorthVacation.com (the "Site"). The Site is operated by 360 DEV LLC. References to "we," "us," and "our" in this policy mean 360 DEV LLC in connection with operating the Site. By using the Site, you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
My trip. If you save places to My trip, the list is kept in your browser's local storage on your device. It is not sent to us or to anyone else. If you use "Copy share link," the link itself lists the places you saved, so anyone you give it to can see them. Nothing is stored on a server. If you choose "Open in Google Maps," the saved places' map coordinates are sent to Google and handled under Google's privacy policy.
Maps. When you scroll to a map on the Site, your browser requests map images from OpenStreetMap's tile servers, which receive your IP address and the map area you are viewing, as with any web request. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Search. Site search runs in your browser against an index stored on our own site. Your search words are not sent to a search company.
Information you give us. If you subscribe to our email list, we collect the email address you provide. If you use the contact form, we collect what you send. That is the only personal information we ask for.
Analytics, only if you allow it. If you choose Allow, Google Analytics collects information about your visit, described under Analytics and cookies below. If you do not, it collects nothing.
Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, to operate and secure the service, as is normal for any website.
Cookies. The Site sets no advertising cookies. Google Analytics cookies are set only if you choose Allow. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the Site will work normally.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics, a service of Google LLC, to count visits and see which guides are useful. It stays off until you choose Allow, for every visitor wherever you are. When you allow it, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) and collects the pages you view, how you arrived, searches you make on the Site, approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device and browser type. Google explains how it uses this data in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. See also the Google Privacy Policy.
We never send Google your name, your email address, or anything you type into our forms. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not sell your personal information, and we do not use analytics data for targeted advertising. Your analytics choice is saved in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie.
If you sign up for our newsletter, we use your email only to send occasional Northern Michigan planning notes and updates. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. Form submissions are processed by our hosting provider in order to deliver them to us.
Third-party links and listings
The Site links to event organizers, parks, attractions, places to stay, and other third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. Their policies, not ours, govern your interactions with them, including any booking you make with a host.
Your privacy choices
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with the button above or the Privacy choices link at the bottom of every page. Choosing No thanks after Allow stops analytics and deletes its cookies.
Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a No: analytics stays off and we do not ask.
Your browser. You can block or delete cookies and clear local storage (which removes My trip) in your browser settings.
You can ask us at any time what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or unsubscribe from our emails. Reach us through our contact form.
US state privacy rights
Some US states, including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Texas, give residents rights over their personal information, such as to know, correct, or delete it, and to opt out of its sale, sharing, or use for targeted advertising. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. To make a request, use our contact form. We honor Global Privacy Control as an opt-out.
Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland
Analytics runs only with your prior consent, and you can withdraw it at any time as described under Your privacy choices. We use the limited information described above to run, protect, and improve the Site.
Data retention and security
We keep your email address only for as long as you remain subscribed. We use reasonable measures to protect the limited information we hold, though no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.
Children
The Site is a general travel guide. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date below. Continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
