Belvedere Golf Club
A 1920s William Watson parkland course southeast of Charlevoix, private in spirit but open to outside play, and a longtime Michigan Amateur host.
Belvedere Golf Club is a classic parkland course just outside Charlevoix, designed by the Scottish architect William Watson in the mid-1920s. The club says it was laid out in 1925 and opened in 1927, and it has hosted the Michigan Amateur more than 40 times. It is a walkable course with greens set on natural landforms and plenty of contour around them.
The club keeps a private-club feel but takes outside tee times, and GOLF lists it as semi-private. Visit Charlevoix notes the Belvedere Hickory Open each June, when players use hickory-shafted clubs and period dress.
