Bayshore Marathon

A Memorial Day weekend marathon, half marathon and 10K in Traverse City on a flat out-and-back course along East Grand Traverse Bay, run by the Traverse City Track Club since 1983.

The Bayshore Marathon has been held in Traverse City since 1983, when local runners founded it to show off the Grand Traverse region and Old Mission Peninsula. It takes place on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

The course is flat and largely follows the water along East Grand Traverse Bay, which is a big part of its appeal. Alongside the full marathon there are a half marathon, a 10K and a kids’ race. Each race has an entry cap, and recent editions have filled early, so runners should watch for registration to open. For spectators, the organizers mark viewing spots on the course map and run a shuttle to some of them.

What to expect

The full marathon starts on the Northwestern Michigan College campus and follows the shore of the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay, finishing with a quarter-mile on a stadium track. The half marathon starts on Devil's Dive Road on Old Mission Peninsula, and there is also a 10K and a 1.2-mile kids' race. Entries are capped and recent races have sold out, and spectators are directed to marked spots along the course.
