Old Mission Inn

On Mission Road in Old Mission, on the Old Mission Peninsula

The Old Mission Inn stands on Mission Road in the small community of Old Mission, on the Old Mission Peninsula. Traverse City Tourism dates it to 1869 and describes it as Michigan’s oldest historic hotel. It opened as Hedden Hall, and owner George Hedden served for years as the local postmaster, with the Old Mission post office kept in the building. The Porter family later owned it, renamed it the Porter Hotel and ran the local telephone company from it.

Angie and Bruce Jensen bought the inn in 1998 and spent years restoring it. Old guest registers and an early telephone switchboard are kept on site. In 2025 the Jensens listed the property for sale, so check the inn’s site for current details before planning a stay.

The inn now has four rooms and two suites, all facing East Grand Traverse Bay, and is for adults only. The Mission Bay Cafe on site is open to the public. The inn lists a season from May through October, and the peninsula’s wineries, beaches and lighthouse are close by.
