Van's Beach

Leland's public Lake Michigan beach, a short walk from downtown at the end of Cedar Street, joined to Hall Beach and Fishtown by the shore. A local sunset spot.

Van’s Beach is the Lake Michigan beach you can walk to from downtown Leland. It is a public beach and a local favorite, so it suits anyone staying in the village who wants sand and big-lake views without getting back in the car.

Find the trail just past Van’s Garage at the end of Cedar Street. There is a public lot there, and you can also park along Lake Street. Please keep clear of the driveways and fronts of homes on the way.

To the north, Van’s runs into Hall Beach, a short protected stretch at the base of the harbor break wall that links the beach to Fishtown. Together they make one continuous public shoreline from the village’s historic fishing docks south along Lake Michigan. It is a favorite place to watch the sun go down.

No facilities or lifeguards are listed, so bring what you need. Lake Michigan conditions change quickly: watch the waves and stay off the break wall when the lake is rough. For calmer, warmer water, Leland’s other public beaches are on Lake Leelanau, on the east side of town.
