American Dunes Golf Club
A Jack Nicklaus reworking of the former Grand Haven Golf Club, with sand dunes opened up across the course and profits directed to Folds of Honor.
American Dunes sits on Lincoln Street just south of Grand Haven, on the property that was long known as Grand Haven Golf Club. Nicklaus Design rebuilt the course with Maj. Dan Rooney, whose family owns the land, starting in 2019. More than 2,000 trees came out during the work, uncovering sand dunes that now frame the holes, and the two nines were swapped. The course opened to public play in May 2021.
The club is closely tied to Folds of Honor, the foundation Rooney started to fund scholarships for the families of fallen and disabled service members, and the club directs its annual profit to that cause. There is no lodging on site; the club points visitors to hotels and vacation rentals in the Grand Haven area.
