Boyden House Inn

On South Fifth Street near downtown Grand Haven

Boyden House sits on South Fifth Street in a residential part of Grand Haven, around the corner from downtown. The inn’s own history dates the house to 1872 and credits T. Steward and Mary White as its builders, whose sons became an author, an artist and a violinist. Pure Michigan, the state tourism site, describes it as an 1874 Queen Anne home.

The house takes its name from Charles Boyden, a lumberman who bought it in 1898. He filled it with butternut, walnut and cherry woodwork and added the south wing and the large porch. Later owners divided it into apartments during the wartime housing shortage, and in 1987 Corrie and Berend Snoeyer restored it and opened it as a bed and breakfast.

The inn lists eight guest rooms and suites. The state listing notes that some rooms have fireplaces and whirlpool tubs, and that parks, shops and the boardwalk out to the lighthouse and beach are within walking distance.
