Washington Street Inn

On Washington Avenue in Grand Haven

The Washington Street Inn occupies a 1902 house on Washington Avenue that was built by H.J. Dornbos, a Grand Haven businessman whose smoked fish company dated to 1889. The house is an American Foursquare from the years just after the Victorian era, with Craftsman touches such as leaded and beveled glass, original oak woodwork and hardwood floors. The inn describes it as a locally registered historic landmark.

The current owners bought the house in 1987 and opened it to guests that same year. Pure Michigan lists five bedrooms and four common rooms. Breakfast is cooked each morning from a short menu and served in the dining room, and the inn also offers a separate downtown condo.

Grand Haven sits where the Grand River meets Lake Michigan, and the inn points guests toward the boardwalk, the beach and a downtown of shops, restaurants and breweries.
