Beach · Charlevoix & Petoskey
Boyne City's in-town beach on Front Street, a short walk from downtown, with a splash pad, playground, restrooms, picnic tables and a Mobi Mat. No lifeguard.
Peninsula Beach is the easy in-town swim in Boyne City, and it suits families best. It is a small public beach on Front Street, close enough to downtown that you can walk over after lunch.
The kids will head straight for the splash pad, which has ground jets and other water features. Beyond that, the city lists a playground, restrooms, a drinking fountain, picnic tables and a lighted walkway, with plenty of parking.
There is a Mobi Mat across the sand for wheelchairs and wagons. If you depend on it, check that it is down before you go.
There is no lifeguard, so you swim at your own risk. Keep a close eye on kids, and check the state’s beach water-quality reports for any advisories.
Stay for sunset if you can. When you want a bigger beach on Lake Charlevoix, Young State Park is just northwest of town; you need a Recreation Passport on your car. If the dog is coming, Tannery Beach is the town’s dog-friendly spot.
