The Playhouse at White Lake (Howmet Playhouse)

Whitehall's 1916 theater, renovated and renamed the Playhouse at White Lake, with summer theater, Michigan music, films and youth theater.

The Playhouse at White Lake, long known as the Howmet Playhouse, is Whitehall’s evening out: a theater that has been welcoming audiences since 1916, two blocks off the main street downtown.

It was built for live performances and early films. A community campaign raised $3.7 million for a renovation around 2018 that added a glass-enclosed lobby, new seats and accessible restrooms, and uncovered original painted doors and wooden ceiling beams.

Summer is theater season, with the Summer Theatre Festival, and the rest of the year the playhouse lists Michigan music, films and youth theater. Check the schedule and book before you go, then walk to dinner downtown.
