Attraction · Benzie & Sleeping Bear
Glen Arbor's community arts center on Lake Street, with free gallery exhibits, classes for adults and kids, and Plein Air Weekend in August.
The Glen Arbor Arts Center is the town’s art stop: a small nonprofit on Lake Street with free gallery exhibits, worth a half hour between dune days.
Local artists and supporters founded it in 1983. There are three exhibit spaces, the Main Gallery, the Lobby Gallery and an Outdoor Gallery, and shows change through the year.
If you are in town for a week, look at the class list. The center runs more than 100 programs a year for adults and kids, including painting, pottery, mixed media and photography, plus artist talks, concerts and performances.
Plan around August if you paint or like watching painters: the center’s annual Plein Air Weekend is held then. The main gallery closes on exhibit change-over days, so check the schedule before you stop.
