On Glendale Avenue in Bay View, near Petoskey
The Terrace Inn sits on Glendale Avenue inside the Bay View Association, a short walk from the Little Traverse Bay waterfront and about a mile from downtown Petoskey. Indiana banker William DeVol cleared away the Nash House, a cottage that had served as a restaurant, and began building a new hotel on the site in October 1910. It was ready for guests on June 1, 1911.
DeVol ran the inn until his death in 1938, and the family’s ownership ended in 1942. It has changed hands several times since, and the Petoskey Area Visitors Bureau names Mary Beth Bennett and her husband, Matt, as the current operators. The inn also has a long-told ghost story about two workers killed during construction.
Today the inn lists 38 guest rooms, from cottage rooms to suites, and year-round casual fine dining at the 1911 Restaurant; check restaurant hours before you plan dinner there. The visitors bureau lists the inn as open year-round and points to it as a good spot for taking in Bay View’s summer events.
