Harbor Lights Resort

On the Lake Michigan beach in downtown Frankfort

Harbor Lights Resort sits on the Lake Michigan shore in downtown Frankfort, a short walk from the town’s shops and restaurants. The ground has a long history as a place to stay: the Ann Arbor Railroad opened the Royal Frontenac Hotel here in 1902, and it burned in 1912.

The present resort grew out of a bowling alley, restaurant and the Sou’Wester Motel built in the 1960s. Over the following decades the owners added motel rooms and condominiums, beachfront units in 1995 and a building of suites in 2004, when the property took the Harbor Lights name. Dennis Campbell and partners bought the property in 1982, his children Steve and Amy Campbell took over the business in 2005, and in 2012 the resort also took over the marina across the street.
