The Canfield House

On Portage Lake in Onekama

The Canfield House is a summer home on the shore of Portage Lake that was built in 1900 for Charles Canfield, one of Manistee’s lumbermen. It sits on about two and a half acres in Onekama, with roughly 215 feet of private beach on the lake.

The inn has seven guest rooms, each with a private bath. Two of them are turret suites from the original house, and most rooms look out over the lake, the lawn or the gardens, which include a fountain and a koi pond.

The inn suggests arriving along M-22, or flying into Manistee or Traverse City.
