Manistee County Historical Museum

Manistee's history museum in a downtown drugstore building on River Street, with period rooms, a log cabin replica and maritime exhibits.

The Manistee County Historical Museum is the place to understand the town you are walking through, and a good rainy-day stop for families. It is at 425 River Street, charges admission, and fills the Lyman Building on River Street, the old home of the A.H. Lyman drug company, a building the museum says has stayed as it was in 1907.

The drugstore past is still on show in a pharmacy exhibit. Beyond it are period rooms that kids tend to enjoy: a lumberman’s business office, an antique dental office, Victorian dining room, parlor, bedroom and kitchen, and a life-size log cabin replica. A maritime exhibit has boat models, articles and photographs.

The White family of the A.H. Lyman company gave the building to the museum in 1960. It is downtown, so pair it with the riverwalk.

The museum lists a schedule through the year that changes with the season; check its site before you go.
